Smarter Advertising Decisions. More Sustainable Amazon Growth.
Amazon advertising can improve product visibility and support sales, but increasing PPC spend is not the same as improving commercial performance. An effective strategy links campaigns to product economics, the quality of the listing, available inventory and the brand's wider objectives.
AVENZO approaches Amazon advertising as part of day-to-day marketplace management across Amazon UK and Amazon Türkiye. We consider how advertising decisions affect conversion, contribution margin, stock availability and long-term commercial performance.
What Is Amazon PPC Advertising?
Pay-per-click (PPC) advertising allows sellers to promote products in relevant shopping placements, typically paying when a shopper clicks. The goal is not simply to collect impressions or clicks: the campaign must help reach the right customers and support worthwhile sales.
A successful campaign is shaped by the product, its market, customer demand and the quality of its detail page. Strong targeting cannot compensate indefinitely for poor pricing or a listing that fails to convert.
Understanding Amazon Advertising Formats
Sponsored Products
Sponsored Products can promote individual product listings in search results and on product detail pages. They are often used to reach customers searching for related products or shopping within a relevant category.
Sponsored Brands
Sponsored Brands can showcase the brand and multiple products through eligible placements and creative formats. They can support discovery of a wider product range, subject to Amazon's eligibility requirements.
Display Advertising
Amazon's display advertising offering can help brands reach relevant audiences across different properties and placements. The former Sponsored Display product has been incorporated into Amazon's broader display ads offering. Advertisers should refer to the current Amazon Ads interface because features and naming can evolve.
How Should Amazon PPC Campaigns Be Planned?
Start by identifying what the campaign is meant to achieve. A new listing requiring initial visibility may need a different approach from an established product where profitability and efficient customer acquisition are the priorities.
Keyword and product targeting should reflect relevant customer intent. Search term reports can help identify productive opportunities and irrelevant traffic that should be reduced.
Budget allocation should consider selling price, unit margin, competition, seasonality and stock coverage. Spending aggressively on a product with limited inventory can interrupt sales momentum just as demand builds.
What Do ACOS, TACOS and ROAS Mean?
- ACOS – Advertising Cost of Sales: Advertising spend divided by sales attributed to ads. If a campaign spends £20 and generates £100 of attributed sales, ACOS is 20%.
- ROAS – Return on Advertising Spend: Attributed sales divided by advertising spend. In the same example, ROAS is 5.
- TACOS – Total Advertising Cost of Sales: Advertising spend as a share of all product sales, including sales not directly attributed to ads.
These are useful measures, but none of them represents net profit. An ACOS that works for one product may be unsustainable for another with a lower contribution margin.
Budget, Bidding and Ongoing Optimisation
Overly aggressive bids can consume the budget quickly without generating enough margin. Bids that are too low may limit visibility in important placements. Effective management requires regular review rather than a one-off campaign setup.
Performance should be checked in context: conversion rate, sales volume, search term relevance, category competition and the actual contribution margin of the advertised product.
Product demand can change throughout the year. Inventory replenishment and promotions should therefore be considered when adjusting advertising budgets.
Why Listing Quality Matters
Advertising brings shoppers to a product page. Clear images, a strong title, useful product information, appropriate pricing, customer feedback and availability influence whether they buy.
Where the detail page does not convert, increasing traffic can multiply unproductive spending. Listing optimisation and PPC management should be planned together.
From Higher Sales to Profitable Growth
Revenue can rise while profitability falls once referral fees, fulfilment charges, returns, advertising and product costs are taken into account.
AVENZO focuses on commercially informed advertising decisions, not simply larger budgets. Through Managed by Avenzo, we run agreed marketplace operations in the brand's seller account. Through Sold by Avenzo, we purchase products from brands and manage our own Amazon resale operations.
Frequently Asked Questions About Amazon PPC
Do I need to advertise on Amazon?
Not necessarily. Advertising can support discovery, especially in competitive categories, but the decision should fit the product's economics and objectives.
Is a lower ACOS always better?
No. ACOS must be interpreted against margin and broader objectives. An unusually low ACOS can sometimes reflect a campaign with limited reach.
Will increasing my ad budget guarantee more sales?
No. Demand, conversion rate, competition, price and inventory availability all influence results.
